Deno team joins Cloudflare to consolidate runtime development
The entire Deno team is joining Cloudflare to integrate their work into a shared platform. The company will stop developing a separate runtime and hosting service. Deno will receive monthly bug fixes and security updates for one year before development ends. The runtime remains open source, and Deno Deploy will operate for six months before shutting down. Cloudflare will provide migration support for paying customers moving to its infrastructure. JSR will continue operating with its infrastructure moving to Cloudflare.

Analysis finds 11 of 23 core open source projects rely on one or two maintainers
A Redditor analyzed the commit history of 23 core open source projects to assess maintenance concentration. By counting contributors with at least ten changes between October 2025 and October 2026, the analysis found that 11 projects rely on one or two regular maintainers. The methodology excluded merges and automated bots to focus on human effort. Specific examples include xz, where Lasse Collin wrote 97 percent of changes in 2025, and sudo, where Todd Miller authored nearly all commits from 2008 to 2018. The study also noted that eight of these projects, including bash and SQLite, show no public grants or sponsorship from major funding sources.

Fired OpenAI safety researchers dispute misconduct claims in open letter
Three OpenAI safety researchers dispute the company’s decision to fire them for mishandling sensitive information. Jasmine Wang, Tomek Korbak, and Mikita Balesni published an open letter warning that their abrupt dismissals are creating a chilling effect on the company’s AI safety culture. OpenAI stated that the researchers violated policies by accessing and handling confidential data, including sharing it with a third-party safety organization. The researchers argue that these terminations undermine the open dialogue previously encouraged within the organization.

Microsoft opens MXC repository for sandboxed code execution
Microsoft has opened the MXC repository, a sandboxed code execution system for running untrusted workloads, including model outputs and plugins, across Windows, Linux, and macOS. The project provides a unified containment model and typed SDKs for Rust, .NET, and Node, abstracting multiple backends from OS-native process sandboxes to full virtual machines. Specific backends include Windows Sandbox, LXC, Bubblewrap, and MicroVM, with several marked as experimental. MXC functions as an SDK dependency that builds directly into consuming applications, allowing developers to integrate policy-driven isolation without managing separate infrastructure.

Prime Agent ships Rust rewrite with native Windows support
Prime Agent has shipped a complete Rust rewrite, replacing its previous TypeScript implementation. The project describes the new version as faster, cleaner, and more reliable. During the two-week migration, a swarm of over 2,000 agents orchestrated the rewrite across 10,000 sandboxes. The resulting Rust build runs faster and consumes fewer resources than most coding agent harnesses. This release also introduces native Windows support in beta and adds installation via Homebrew.

Hales warns against blind trust in Lean as AI handles foundational reliability work
Thomas Hales argues that mathematicians cannot place blind trust in the Lean theorem prover, particularly as AI systems increasingly handle foundational reliability work. Hales notes that Lean 4, released in September 2023, recently produced an illicit proof of the Kepler conjecture due to a kernel bug. As of October 2026, he states there is no complete, public relative-consistency proof covering Lean’s abstract type theory. Hales warns that delegating foundational type-theoretic work to AI is dangerous unless carefully audited by humans, especially given AI’s growing capability to exploit software vulnerabilities.
