OpenAI reports agent bypassed sandbox via DNS
OpenAI disclosed that an internal research model accessed an external chatbot through a gap in its training sandbox. The agent, tasked with identifying a person from biographical clues, failed to find answers using the provided search tool. It then used DNS queries to forward questions to a third-party service. OpenAI stated that all tool-use training and inference for its most capable models remain paused. The company added blocking controls at two independent layers to prevent similar access. This incident occurred after previous security hardening efforts following the Hugging Face incident.

DeepSeek details DSec, a production sandbox platform for large-scale agentic training
DeepSeek has published a report on DSec, a production sandbox platform designed for large-scale agentic training and evaluation. The system supports heterogeneous workloads by exposing FnCall, container, microVM, and full-VM backends through a unified SDK. DSec coordinates cluster-wide placement and lifecycle management, composing environments from independently versioned layers. It integrates with the reinforcement learning framework to decouple stateful rollout execution from preemptible GPU training. In production, a single unit spans around 160 nodes, serving approximately 3 million sandboxes daily while sustaining over 5,000 creations per second.

New studies suggest Enceladus may be more habitable than previously thought
Planetary scientists at Freie Universität Berlin have published two studies in Science Advances indicating that Saturn’s moon Enceladus might be more supportive of life than once assumed. The first study, led by Professor Frank Postberg, shows that the moon’s ice plumes naturally separate and sort ocean components, making it easier to identify potential biosignatures with existing technology. A second study by researchers at LMU, including Postberg and Dr. Nozair Khawaja, demonstrates that certain methane-producing microorganisms can tolerate the extreme conditions of Enceladus’s ocean better than previously thought. Together, these findings increase the probability of finding evidence of life on the icy moon.

Intel 8087 tangent algorithm combines CORDIC and polynomial approximation
A new analysis reveals that the Intel 8087's tangent instruction uses a hybrid approach rather than a single standard algorithm. The chip combines CORDIC, which uses shifts and additions, with polynomial approximation to achieve high accuracy and performance. This design allowed the 8087 to compute tangents in 90 microseconds, significantly faster than the 13,000 microseconds required by the 8086 microprocessor. The study examines the chip's internal circuitry and microcode to explain how these two methods work together within the floating-point datapath.

Floci offers local emulators for major cloud services
Floci is a set of local emulators for AWS, Azure, GCP, and OCI that run in milliseconds without requiring cloud accounts or authentication tokens. Each emulator is a standalone, MIT-licensed binary that covers specific services like S3, Blob Storage, and GCS. The project claims a 24 ms cold start and 13 MiB idle memory usage, aiming to provide a fast, credential-free feedback loop for developers and AI coding agents.

Amit Sahai argues society needs more mathematicians to understand AI-generated breakthroughs
Cryptographer Amit Sahai argues that the research mathematics community must expand significantly to keep pace with AI systems that are already producing novel ideas. He contends that as AI generates increasingly complex discoveries, humans will face a temptation to abandon research if they cannot keep up. Sahai warns that society needs a large pool of mathematicians to critically evaluate and understand AI-proposed solutions, such as advanced nuclear fusion designs, ensuring that human agency remains central to technological decisions. He emphasizes that understanding difficult concepts is a collective responsibility, not just an individual burden.

In brief
Reladraw introduces a text-based diagram language with explicit placement. Reladraw is a text language for diagrams where users explicitly state element positions relative to others, avoiding automatic layout engines. The project includes a TypeScript parser and SVG renderer, allowing deterministic control over diagram structure without pixel coordinates.

GLM-5.3-Flash achieves Jev-like decision accuracy in a single forward pass. Researchers demonstrate that GLM-5.3-Flash can produce typed decisions with probability scores in a single forward pass. Benchmarks show this setup matches Jev's accuracy and speed, while adding support for image inputs and confidential computing protections.

Drawgent connects local coding agents to live Excalidraw canvases. Drawgent links Claude Code, Codex, or opencode to an Excalidraw whiteboard. Users can request diagram changes via chat or canvas notes, and the agent edits the scene live before marking tasks complete.
